So every dancer can shine

Levels & categories

There is a learning process all dancers go through, so we offer a wide array of levels for every dancer to shine in their category.

Every level is eligible for high scores and overalls. All dancer levels must be entered at registration.

How a routine’s level is set

A routine’s level comes from its dancers’ levels. To change a routine’s level, the dancers’ levels have to change.

  • SolosAll of a dancer’s solos compete in the same level. Dancers may run for title with 1 routine in each title class: dance, acro and modeling.
  • Duos & triosThe highest level dancer decides the level.
  • GroupsThe majority of the group decides the level. A 50/50 split goes to the higher level.
  • BUMP UP THE JAMIf all 3 judges agree a routine is in the wrong level, it is bumped to the next level. A soloist bumped for one solo is bumped for all solos.

Student choreography

Student choreography routines compete against each other, whatever their level. They are eligible for top 10 awards and the Overall Highest Scoring Student Choreography Routine.

Routines that had help from a dance teacher or industry professional are not eligible. Directors choose “student choreography” as the entry style when registering on DanceBug.

All the styles

Line: an extended routine without a theme. Production: an extended routine with a theme or storyline. Ages are as of January 1st.

Handstands, cartwheels, strength tricks and headstands do not count as tricks.
